A year ago today, Yosemite Creek looked more like a river. The weather was cold & overcast with scattered thunderstorms and the melt from the record snowpack had Yosemite Falls gushing heavily for late spring. This was the view John Muir would have had when he stepped out of his brookside cabin.

One year ago today, the freshet on the Merced River from the snowmelt of a record-breaking snowpack in the Sierra Nevada mountains was about as high as you'll ever see it.
